“Ddukbokki” or “Tteokbokki” is a highly beloved spicy Korean stir-fried rice cake dish that is usually eaten as a snack and has had many variations and styles as to how it is prepared over the past decades. It actually dates back to the Joseon Dynasty period, “Ddukbokki” or “Tteokbokki” was once a dish only served to the royal courts and sometimes also used as a cure for certain ailments. So imagine that, this beloved dish “Tteokbokki” is actually a royal dish which can now be accessed and enjoyed by almost anyone anywhere since Korean food has generated plenty of love in the food industry. With Korean Food now basically more accessible than it ever has been with the increase in popularity of our Korean Culture through the social media landscape and celebrities who have gained worldwide recognition, you can now literally find Korean restaurants or shops in every corner of the city. For us, it’s not just about preparing food that is good enough to get you through the day, for us it’s art and taking into consideration your health. With the world taking a liking to our unique food texture and sumptuous flavors, one of the best ways to get to know Korea is through the food.
One of the healthier food choices out there, Korea’s obesity rate is lower than most countries. As one of the Korean restaurants in Cerritos, we prepare our food with fresh ingredients and vegetables along with fermented food such as kimchi. We tend to keep things simple, and avoid as much processed food as possible. In doing so we are able to keep those calories at a low level, keep the bad fats away and most importantly maintain that delicious taste everyone craves. Another aspect to notice is that there aren’t too many dairy products in our dishes as we rely mostly on spices and vegetable options. Milk is consumed mostly as a drink.
Korean fusion meals have been around for centuries, however the popularity reached unprecedented new heights in the 1980s in America and other parts of the world. During this time, chefs began experimenting by adapting different styles of cooking derived from other countries. By combining the flavors from different cultures, they found that more and more people gained a liking for the Korean taste, especially those who were considering more healthy options.
If you notice in most Korean restaurants in general, group meals are mainly ordered. This symbolizes the Korean culture where we give a great importance to ensuring everyone gets a share of the food on the table. Banchan (Korean side dishes) are common little side dishes that are shared for everyone to enjoy. Taking a bite out of every dish and making sure everyone gets an equal share is the tradition. In most cases, a person not familiar with Korean culture may be surprised with banchan as it is mostly served automatically. It will mostly include kimchi, vegetable dishes, seafood, seasoned eggs, and other different menus depending on the restaurant.
As a Korean restaurant in Cerritos, our aim is to share our Korean Culture with the world through food, making sure you get a taste of the delicious food we have to offer and give good enough reasons to have to come back for more, bring along more friends and simply have a good time while indulging in your favorite dishes.
